Dutch is a combination of very very old German and English from what I can tell. I noticed that at the TSF fanclubday. I was meeting people from England and Estonia, and for the English people it was easier to learn dutch instead of Estonian.

@ Lianne. I haven't heard Estonian other than a few words on the tv so I can't comment. But the English/German that Dutch originated form is a very archaic form I think. The languages have obviously changed in that time. Some of the words are no longer used or are used differently. I can't think of any examples now, but I can remember when I was in Holland a few years back, I suddenly realised the origins of a dutch phrase in archaic old english. I think you also use some similar sayings ie "Storm in a tea-cup", The Germans also share some sayings with us. @ Femke. Let me think, I can't spell some of the words I know hmm a certain unfreindly word beginning G ending R , Astubleift, Frikadel, Frits, Bier, Kip, Smaka???(What you say when you eat), 1 to 10, stockbrood, kaas, tot ziens, groeten, groetjes. Probably others, but I'm tired right now

hehe that's funny, it is also a lot of fun to give a sentence and let an foreigner read it loudly I had someone from Poland on MSN a few months ago, and we were reading each others languages using voiceclips, it was hilarious And we made an American dude say really strange things too (and he had more fun doing it than we did )

Tony, 18, North West Uk.
I like music/reading/computergames/art and i'm generally an annoying sod (for myself) because i can never leave well enough alone, i'm constantly designing games, trying to write songs and i'm currently working on a novel. Oh and drawing stuff, yeah.
I have a 3 legged cat called Poppy who is my avitar <-- (and my magicians familiar, only i'm not a magician and she can't talk). And i'm scared of crowds and people judging me. That, heights and stick insects. *shudder* And for a final, uber intresting fact about me i can't pronounce the "th" sound in words such as "thought" or "three" so instead their indistinguishable from "fought" and "free". No idea why.
